JIDP Phase 5 – Train the Trainer Program & International Congress on Social Inclusion Through Judo - Madrid, Spain | 10–12 July 2025
A total of 86 participants from 14 countries came together in the vibrant city of Madrid to take part in the Judo Intellectual Disability Project (JIDP) Phase 5 – Train the Trainer Program, alongside the International Congress on Social Inclusion Through Judo. The energy, commitment, and sense of purpose shared among participants were both palpable and inspiring.

Phase Four Launch added 04.03.25

With the successful completion of phase 1 of our JIDP Train the Trainer program, we are delighted to announce the launch of Phase 2.
Phase 1 covered 7 disability awareness and information modules, the importance of physical activity plus 1 quiz and 1 test.

Impact of Train the Trainer Program added 07.08.24

This JIDP European Erasmus+ project has many objectives and ambitions, one of which is our Train the Trainer program. This program consists of a 4-phase comprehensive online adaptive coaching course plus two international face-to-face interventions in Spain and Poland over the next two years.
Our aim is not just to produce a large number of new, professional adaptive judo trainers, but also to produce trainers that can go on and produce other adaptive judo trainers.
The chart below illustrates how the initial 60 trainers can lead to a substantial number of individuals being trained and coached, potentially impacting over 15,000 new adaptive judo athletes.

Phase One of our anticipated Train the Trainer Online Adapted Coaching Program has now been launched.
This phases main focus is on disability awareness/information and covers modules on
- Autism (ASD)
- Down Syndrome (DS)
- Cerebral Palsy (CP)
- Intellectual Disability (ID)
- Visual Impairment (VI)
- Hearing Impairment
- The Importance of Physical Activity
Participation Stats added 22.05.24
Registration has now reached its limit and we are delighted and proud to announce that we have 62 participants from 17 countries/15 organisations. Our legacy is to produce as many NEW adaptive judo coaches as possible. Our program’s aim was to recruit a minimum of 50% NEW adaptive judo coaches from our total target. This we have achieved and more. The split is 68% new coaches to adaptive judo and 32% with some experience.
The program will commence on the 1st June 2024 with phase 1 of 4 of our online JIDP adaptive judo coaching course. We wish all our candidates an enjoyable journey into the wonderful world of adaptive judo!

Framework for JIDP Train the Trainer Work Package
For Project Partners:
- Each partner will nominate 4 persons to take part in the Train the Trainer programme
- Min 50% of these participants should be new coaches to adaptive judo
- The full cost of the program will be covered by the JIDP project budget
For External Participants:
- We are inviting 28 external participants to join the program
- Min 50% of these participants should be new coaches to adaptive judo
- The Online Adaptive Coaching Course is FREE to all Participants
- Face the Face Train the Trainer modules - travel expenses is self funded or federation funded and is not the responsibility of the JIDP project
Course Details:
- Each Participant should be available and willing to participant in all aspects of the training program which includes;
- A four phase Online Adaptive Coaching Course
- Participate in the “Judo Program” work package of this project**
- Attend face to face Train the Trainer module 1 (5hrs) in Madrid in June 2025
- Attend face to face Train the Trainer module 2 (5hrs) in Poland in 2026
- On the successful completion of the course each participant will receive a Train the Trainer certificate, validated by Ramon LLULL University, Barcelona.
- Additional places may be offered to external participants on a self-funded basis in order to boost dissemination of the project across Europe and develop additional adaptive judo coaches worldwide!

Programme format
Online adaptive coaching modules
- Online modules will be released in 4 phases over 2024/25
- Module 1 – June/July/Aug ‘24
- Module 2 – Sept/Oct/Nov ’24 - (Module 2 will combine modules 1 & 2 for revision)
- Module 3 – Dec ‘24/ Jan/Feb ‘25 - (Module 3 will combine modules 1, 2 & 3 for revision)
- Module 4 – Mar/Apr/May ‘25 - (Module 4 will combine modules 1, 2, 3, & 4 for final revision)
- Participants who complete the online modules will then be invited to complete the “in person” Train the Trainer module 1 in Madrid in June 2025
Judo Program Participation
- Each Participant must contribute 100 hours to your organisations Judo Program Work Package over the duration of the Judo Program (Sept ‘24 – June ’26)
- This contribution can be made, by attending weekly lessons, assisting in organised events, writing class plans etc.
In Person Train the Trainer Modules
- Each Participant must complete 10 hrs Train the Trainer course to qualify for certification
- The 10 hours will be split into 2 modules of 5 hours each

- Module 2 – Train the Trainer – Judo specific adaptive coaching Poland 2026
