Last week, at Hotel Baía Cascais, Lisbon, we had the Kick-Off Meeting of the Judo for Intellectual Disability Project JIDP: a ground-breaking initiative aimed at leveraging sport to foster social and cultural integration for adolescents with intellectual disabilities (ID).
Our mission is clear: extend the reach of judo programs for individuals with ID, making them accessible to as many as possible. The project goes beyond the mats by incorporating a holistic approach, emphasizing a healthy nutrition strategy alongside physical activity to enhance the quality of life for these adolescents.
What sets this initiative apart is the development of a smartphone app tailored for the project, with the potential to expand to other sports in the future. Through this, we are not only breaking barriers in judo but paving the way for inclusive sports engagement on a broader scale.
